Mougee has always been about pushing the limits of what a flow star can be. Back in the day, the legendary Tai Daperos created the original DapoStar. When I first saw it, it came in just two flavors—Standard and Sport (Sport was a little lighter). Tai told me how it started as simple fabric, then he had the genius idea to add webbing (that flat nylon box design all flow stars use). That little tweak gave the star weight and stability, and suddenly it flopped less, spun better, and the modern flow star as we know it was born.
When Mougee launched in 2019, I wanted to add our own spin (pun fully intended). So, we dropped the Mougee Mini. I thought it would be a “starter toy” for kids—turns out, the whole flow community went wild for it. Not so much the kids, but hey, we found our people. From there, the lineup just kept growing—The Beast (a giant star), The Midway (not too big, not too small), The Micro (tiny but mighty), and even the Little Beast (The Beast’s little sibling). Some were instant hits, some just filled in the family tree—but each pushed the star’s evolution.
Then came the big one: The Power Ring. One late night in my garage, I glued a rope circle to a star, gave it a spin, and literally laughed out loud—it worked that well. After weeks of testing different materials and sizes, I knew I had something special. For the second time in my life, I filed for a patent (the first time is another story from another life). Power Ring feedback was incredible. People who never thought they could spin a Mougee were flowing in minutes. Even my 85-year-old aunt was twirling like a champ.
But there was one thing that bugged me: the Power Ring kind of messed with the look of the star. It cut through the art. I thought about fabric sleeves, pattern-matching, all sorts of fixes… until it hit me: what if the ring was on the inside? Hidden. Sleek. Clean; uninterupted art from edge to edge- Boom, the Intra was born.
With the Intra, the webbing and (in some versions) the Power Ring are tucked between the fabric layers, giving you uninterrupted artwork on both sides. Performance-wise, it’s just as magical—maybe a tiny bit different in feel—but still way easier to spin than a traditional star.
So here we are. The Intra is our next big leap forward, blending art and function in a whole new way. Will the Intra replace the traditional way of making Mougee Stars with the webbing on the outside? Who knows. Will there still be a place for the traditional power ring on the outside? Maybe. These questions will be answered by you, our customers and the flow community in general. Some will like it, some will hate it, some won’t know what I’m even talking about. But for the time being we are going to continue to make all versions and see what happens.
Looking forward, if history’s any clue, this won’t be the last innovation Mougee has in store. Stay tuned—because we’re spinning new ideas all the time.
