A Friendly Note on the Term “Flowstar”
We’ve noticed that sometimes when we refer to a Mougee Star as a flowstar, it creates a bit of confusion. Some people think we’re copying another brand—but we’d love to clarify that a bit!
The term flowstar (or flow star) has been around for quite a while. It first gained popularity thanks to a creator in Spain who introduced the Dapostar. From there, the concept spread to Israel, India, and eventually landed in the U.S. with the launch of Mougee Star.
Mougee has actually been around longer than any other U.S.-based company making this kind of prop. We’ve always used flowstar as a way to describe the category—while Mougee or Mougee Star is our specific brand.
Interestingly, some companies have rebranded under the name Flowstar. While we mean no disrespect—they seem like great people—it does leave us scratching our heads a little. Using a common term like Flowstar as a brand name feels a bit like naming a new bicycle company “Bicycle.” It’s simply too generic to be protected, and it’s been part of the public lexicon for a long time.
Does it bother us that others use the name Flowstar? Not at all. The more people spinning flowstars, the better! What does sting a bit is when someone assumes we copied the name. We didn’t. We’ve been making flowstars longer than any other U.S. brand, but we don’t claim to own the word—it belongs to the community.
There are many great flowstar makers out there, and we celebrate that. But if you’re looking for innovation, quality, and the heart behind the movement, we truly believe Mougee is the name to look for.
Keep flowing,
❤️ Mougee
